Cologix Data Centre

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project involved the provision of a new 20,000 square foot Data Centre located in downtown Toronto. MAT 4Site Engineers Limited was retained as the Mechanical Engineer for the project.
The project utilized many industry standards along with innovative strategies to design a 1000-ton total cooling system. To achieve this, in-row cooling units, along with isolated hot and cold isles assisted in the efficient thermal heat removal from the telecom equipment. The entire system was designed to achieve a Tier lll level of redundancy.

Ultrasonic humidification was used to control humidification levels throughout the space.

A 3000amp DC plant was included in the 20,000 sq/ft and was designed to meet OBC requirements.

Fire protection:

The entire area utilized a pre-action sprinkler system activated by a Very Early Smoke Detection System (upper level and in-row detection), VESDA system. In addition, a dry standpipe and fire hose cabinet system further eliminated the potential for risk.

Important features of the project included the installation of a hydrogen detection system and in-row VESDA detection.

Challenges overcome for this project included:

• Tier lll level design
• 16” maximum raised floor clearance.

Services

Project services included feasibility planning, conceptual design, detailed engineering & design, construction review and contract administration.
